This innovative MA offers global, imperial and postcolonial perspectives on the making of the modern world. This programme analyses the forces of globalisation, the global trajectory and dissemination of ideas, the relationship of knowledge to power, and the history of resistance to imperial expansion. It takes an expansive approach to the global history of ideas by examining representations, images, power, and cultural encounters. You will be taught by some of the foremost experts in their respective fields. The MA has particular, but not exclusive, focus on South Asian, African and British Imperial history and cultures.

You will be able to draw on the rich library and research resources spread across the University of London, as well as senate House Library and the British Library. In London you will furthermore have access to a broad range of Institute for Historical Research seminars, with the extensive resources of Cambridge and Oxford within easy reach.

This programme is ideal for anybody wanting a career with an international aspect, entering fields such as journalism, international NGOs and business. Its rigorous intellectual approach will be of particular benefit to those planning to pursue doctoral work, preparatory to an academic career.
